The Judges of the Cafe Choice Award are pleased to announce the presentation of this highly rated award:

is awarded to member

EOSPETE

for his image

"Crumble, the Lace Chewer"

From the Judges:

"A puppy and a shoe; what could be simpler?  Puppies love chewing shoes, so taking a photo like this should be child's play, right?  Should be, but isn't.  I have a puppy right now, and getting any kind of half-decent photo of him is nigh-on impossible, as he's full of energy.

In this shot, Pete has not only got a half-decent shot, he's got an excellent shot.  The choice of 'shoe' is perfect--a weathered brown Doc Marten boot.  The yellow thread and worn brown leathery tones match the warm golden hair of the pup perfectly--all rounded off very nicely by a complimentary background.  Make no mistake about it, this was no chance shot--the boot and background colour have been carefully selected based on the canine model.

On top of that, the composition is perfect, with well considered, tasteful lighting.  But ultimately, what takes this photo above and beyond the 'usual' is the timing that resulted in such a wonderful expression; a combination of cheekiness and naughtiness, and good-old-fashioned puppy-eyed cuteness.

This is the kind of photo that should be on posters in 1000's of teenage girls' bedrooms, and on greetings cards, etc.

Congratulations Peter" from the Judges.

Congratulations Peter.  You couldn't get a more "oooh, how cute!!!" sort of picture and I think it would work on more than just teenage girls.  Smiley  It is one of those pictures I wish I'd taken, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience for it!  How long did you work with the pooch before getting the picture or was this the first take?  I'd love to hear the story behind how you got the shot!

shot with 28-135mm lens a portaflash head and brolly, hand painted background and my own boot. Crumble was a dream and posed for 15 mins so I just let her do her own thing and picked the moment. The secret is being prepared, making the posing space uncomplicated the having the patience to wait for the subject and never to force a pose just like I do with wildlife. I shot over 400 shots in a 2 hour session of the 3 puppies in this litter and it was great fun. The clients were well pleased as I was to have achieved some of my best pet pictures ever.

Thanks for your comments and praise.
