A cracking centre stage Shaun and a very interesting read. I think my favourite is 'Gateway to the West' though all of you shots are top drawer.

My question. Do you feel you are badly time resticted with regard to going out and getting the shots you want and do you get frustrated at not being able to find the time to shoot as much as you want to?

Hi Tazzers. Thanks for your question.  Yes indeed I do find it frustrating not being able to spend the time I would like on photography.  When I'm on holiday I devote a lot of my time to taking shots but at other times its can just be a snatched few minutes here and there.  The worse thing this autumn has been seeing wonderful misty morning scenes across the fields I pass by on the way to work but not having the time to stop and photograph them.

Hi Shaun........... congrats on your Centre Stage appearance. Very interesting to read about your thoughts and situation. You are modest since I think your images clearly indicate that you are not a novice as you say. All your images are usually strong on composition and colour and you have IMO a good eye. I can usually pick out your images from the thumbnails because you capture the light so very effectively............ must be the magical Mediterranean light which Van Gough loved so much.
Sorry to hear you have a boring job since when you consider how much time we spend working, then that adds up to a lot of your lifetime being bored and as they say "we only live once".
You might like to visit <www.darylbenson.com> .... he is a photographer who makes his living doing landscapes and travel photography and has some beautiful images............. went to a 3 hour talk by him recently and he was tremendous to listen to and described how he took the gamble to make a living from photography..... but his message was "don't give up your day job till you can see a definite income from your images coming in"....... he sold to stock agency Getty Images and advised that if you send images in don't get discouraged if you get rejected first time, keep trying. He has visited and photographed all the continents on the planet...... wonderful way to make a living. I hope you keep posting since I always enjoy your images and hope you are successful in future competitions and endeavors.
My question............ if you could only have one lens for a trip, which one would you take?

Hi PG tips!
Thanks for your comments, and I'll certainly take a look at the site you mention. I love drawing inspiration from those who are lucky enough to actually make money from their landscape and travel images.
Regarding your lens question.  Well out of the 4 lenses I own, probably my Nikon 18-200VR is the best "walk around" lens although obviously there are compromises in quality with such a wide focal range.  I've just returned from a week in Devon and had that lens on my D300 for 90% of the time.  I'm going to Istanbul for a 2 day trip in a fortnight's time and will be limited to what luggage I can take and so I intend to just have the 18-200 again.

Hi Shaun

fascinating to read your very well formed and well informed thoughts on photography and to see some of the shots I haven't seen before. I love the Budleigh ones of course and Charley Farley is great.

We seem to share very similar tastes in equipment and in the places we like to shoot (although I've only been to Crete once). I also prefer taking landscapes to people partly because of worries about people's reactions. Do you have anxieties about photographing people and if so how do you overcome them or get round them?
