I recently treated myself to a week of pottering about with the camera, and decided that one of the places I'd like to go was the Isle Of Wight which I've not visited for 40 years. I remembered with fondness the ex London Tube stock used on the island's one revenue earning line.

While the 1930s stock there on my last visit has been replaced with 1940s sets these are still around 70 years old!

View over Ryde Esplanade Station with the pier stretching away to Pier Head Station.

Set 007 departs St Johns Road, so nice to see mechanical signaling still in use!

Two more sets of ex LT stock outside the depot at St Johns Road. Sadly both appeared to be derelict.

Set 004 waits to depart Sandown. This station is a shadow of it's former self of the time of my last visit - ticket office closed, bay platform and awning on the former island platform gone and replaced with a bus shelter type structure, and the impressive tall signal box gone.

Final shot.

Ryde Pier Head Station, only one platform and line to Esplanade seems to have been in use for some time, and the platforms looking rather unkempt.

Those are lovely photos of your wanderings on the Isle of Wight.  I haven't been there for many years so really nice to see.

Interesting images. I knew nothing about this use of these trains. Did you visit the preserved railway, it seems to be quite a smart operation?

I did nip over to the stream railway, but unfortunately having chosen to be on the Island Mon to Fri in the off season they were not operating, and there was little access to their site, though what little there was does hint at it being well worth a visit in the summer months!

I made up for the disappointment with a visit to the Great Central line at Loughborough the following weekend, and that I can very much recommend.
