January 30, 1948~GANDHI ASSASSINATED

Mohandas Gandhi, the world's chief advocate of non-violence, is assassinated in New Delhi by a terrorist sponsored by a right-wing Hindu militia group. The murder came only 10 days after a failed attempt on Gandhi's life. Thirty-nine-year-old Nathuram Godse shot the great Indian leader as he made his way through a small crowd to lead a prayer session.

Today's Trivia

Wilson Bentley

Wilson A. "Snowflake" Bentley (1865–1931), born in Jericho, Vermont, USA, is the first known photographer of snowflakes. He perfected a process of catching flakes in such a way that their images could be captured before they melted.  He would capture over 5000 images of crystals in his lifetime.

Bentley's Collection

The broadest collection of Wilson Bentley's photographs is held by the Jericho Historical Society in his home town, Jericho, Vermont.  Bentley donated his collection of original glass-plate photomicrographs of snow crystals to the Buffalo (NY)Museum of Science.  A portion of this collection has been digitized and organized into a digital library   See the following link for more information: Bentley Snow Crystal Collection

Today's Chuckles

Feeding The Baby

The first-time father was taking a turn at feeding the baby some strained peas.

Naturally, there were traces of the food everywhere, especially on the infant.

His wife walked in, looked at the infant, then at her husband staring into space, and said, "What in the world are you doing?"

He replied, "I'm waiting for the first coat to dry, so I can put on another."

Taco Order

My daughter went to a local fast food taco joint and ordered a taco. She asked the person behind the counter for "minimal lettuce." He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg.

Isn't it great when you see a shot and know that it's the POTD for the next day. I was so convinced, yesterday, I even put it in writing. Mike's robin image was such a clear winner.

Another Dumblander joke. The ficticious country of Dumbland is used to replace the original joke's word which insulted a particular nation. You can substitute your own choice.

Did you hear about the Dumblander Rubix's cube?
It's white on all sides and it still takes them two minutes to solve.

Mike, congratulations on a fantastic POTD! The details are so sharp and the composition is excellent!  I am waiting for spring to arrive here in Cental New York State.  We may see robins again at the end of March, if we are lucky!
