Ron has handled the whites, in the owl’s feathers, well. With a narrow DOF, the fine tufts of the plumage stand out well against the dark background.

With low contrast in the beach and sky, the horse and rider stand out in Sainty’s POTD. Nicely offset from the centre, the subject is heading into the scene. The gulls are small enough not to steal the show, yet large enough to play their part in balancing the image.
