PHOTO OF THE WEEK~MARCH 5TH SOLFAR - "SUN VOYAGER"
"WooHoo, I'm stunned thank you very much, it's the first time I've received this accolade here.
Well what a triumph for Point & Shoot! This image was literally taken on a Panasonic Lumix TZ19 on iAE setting.
The weather was miserable, cold but above freezing, raining but snow & slush on the ground visible on the stone platform on which the sculpture stands.
I took a couple of images with different viewpoints, not expecting the results to be anything spectacular at all.
When I got home I applied some ND Grad to the sky in Photoshop and tweaked the levels a bit but otherwise it's straight from the camera.
Iceland is a stunning place, the only parallel I can liken it to is the NW of Scotland multiplied by 200% or more.
The mountains are not massively high but in February with the Arctic snows they are spectacular.
Driving on solid ice roads was an experience but in reality with 4WD can and Strudder tyres there were no issues.
The distances are long and the roads very quiet and remote away from Reykjavik.
Unfortunately we did not get a good show of the Northern Lights, 10sec was all we could get so no images!
Thanks again for voting for this image for POTW!.
