Over the past twelve days I’ve been posting pictures of my 4-hour walk in the New Forest snow and getting Crackers and reasonable reviews. Today’s POTD was almost the last one I had intended to put up and yet it was the most successful. I guess it was the shooting into the sun that did it.
My hope for 2011 is an end to all wars. War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

For me it's the white way, surrounded by those rustic fences, leading into the centre of the image that sets BigAl's shot up. The pale sunlight coming through the trees, the winter sky and the frost covered bushes ensure there are no sudden changes of contrast. A white snowy foreground would have given it a stark look but the dappled shade from those trees helps to give the whole scene a gentle look.
Nice one, Alan!

Dave's POTD takes full advantage of the lighting of the scene. The dark sky and sea draws the eye to the white of the splash. The low sun also serves to emphasis the texture of the rocks.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on the list.

Ian's use of white pillow and background puts the model on a diagonal line across the frame. B&W removes any distraction from the dress colour and the skin has good lighting to show off the tones.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Happy New Year all, I hope that it brings lots of good things for you.
Can I tempt you to a slice of my homemade Christmas Cake to go along with your cup of tea or coffee?
