PHOTO OF THE WEEK~JULY 19TH STARE OFF...!!!!
by GEOFF
From: Geoff
"Thank you, very much. The shot was taken at one of our local nature reserves during 2009. The Skipper can be found in pretty well most places and is quite common. They are however very small and easily overlooked.
I had taken a number of shots of this particular butterfly from various angles and various places as it moved from plant to plant, so had to be very patient. This shot, like the vast majority of my shots, was hand held (because I'm lazy) using the Sigma 150mm macro lens and extension tubes. I used "auto focus" as opposed to manual focus; manual focus being the preferred method amongst most macro photographers.
I also used the Sigma EM140 ring flash and a fixed shutter speed of 1/250 second to help alleviate movement.
This is the norm set up for "most" of my images. I'm a great believer in keeping things simple and auto-focus is as simple as it gets and works for me "most" of the time.
Geoff".
