The title of David's POTD says it all. The juxtaposition of straight and round lines are accented by the use of monochrome so that colour is not the dividing factor. Hard shadows pick out the raised section of the wood.

Terry's POTD wins on the excellent detail caught by tracking the bird accurately in flight. We are so used to seeing birds with a sky background that there is an extra appeal when we see a light-coloured bird against a darker background.
