What are Hot pixels?

I can understand that!
The image sensor on digital cameras is made up of milions of individual pixals - little spots or squares - which each react to the light from the lens to make up an image.
A hot pixal is one that has gone wrong - usually it will just glow bright - whte, red, green or blue.
It sheds it's glow to the surrounding pixals so it can be quite visible.
Here's a few of my hot pixal examples:

Haha - I was trying to edit the picture to large and couldn't figure out why the correct code was already there. Chocky had got in moments before.

But just returning to exposure problems - over the few years I have had a D80 - it has become apparent that the exposure problems I had with it are not uncommon, but you learn to adapt. Mostly on the D80 I found using the centre weighted worked much better
Oddly the only lens that seemed ok with the Matrix metering was my Tamron 28 - 200
The Nikon lens was no better than anything else in that respect.
I do feel the D90 is a little better, generally, with the exposure.
The other thing I haveobserved, which is less about exposure and more about the genral setup is they struggle with vivid deep reds in particular (also some purples) - they are just too green orange no matter what White balance I apply - with the D90 there is a Green - Magenta tweak, like Canon do, which helps in this area.

I still really like the D80 too so I won't get rid of it TBH there are not many things
extra on the D90 I use - but the  few I do are nice and handy. The beauty of the
two of them is that they are not poles appart so I can easilly slot in with whichever one
I have with me.
The Hot pixals on the D80 only show up in very low light or high ISO
The Hot pixals on the D90 are hopefully gone!!!

I also love the D80, Geoff.

Haven't had any hot pixels yet.
