Karen...you aren't much on vegetarian food are you. The vegetarian bacon stinks. There is a really good veggie sausage though that I like. I wasn't vegetarian when I was over there, but I'm back at it now. Kind of hard when you are the only one in the family who is, but aah well.

Im not a vegatrian Sara, but i will do some research and make sure i have some extra options. My daughter once brought home a friend who was a veggie, so i went out my way and got her some nice food in etc so she felt comfy at the dinner table. When served she asked if she could just have pasta and tomato sauce..........lol

Jane's POTD is almost hi-key (only the stalk falls below 128 brightness) and that semi-bleaching of the petals gives a delicate look to the flower.
King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash after years of war with the Hittites. His last great possession was the Star of the Euphrates , the most valuable diamond in the ancient world. Desperate, he went to Croesus, the pawnbroker, to ask for a loan. Croesus said, "I'll give you 100,000 dinars for it." "But I paid a million dinars for it," the King protested. "Don't you know who I am? I am the king!" Croesus replied, "When you wish to pawn a Star, makes no difference who you are."

Good Morning. What a lovely day here yesterday. After a misty start the sun came out to stay. Looks like today is going to be the same. Hope you have it good where you are.
I see Geoff didn't put the kettles :kettle:on this morning, so i do apologise for the delay. This morning a treat for you, Bacon, sausage, eggs and mushrooms. Hope you all enjoy. Hope you all enjoy.
Geoff, Hazel did take her camera to London with her and she did get some good shots etc, but, will she let me near her camera ..............NO........ Hopefully she will post them in flickr.
OK, have a good day everyone, enjoy! Sorry for the non attendance - been a busy 6 days working and got a bit bogged down. Sounds like your daughter is a little like mine - very independant!! (Untill she wants a lift somewhere!!!).

Don't you just love it when you can predict the POTD winner 10 hours in advance. The splash of red in Ian's photo is the obvious thing that pulls the eye. Note the use of empty space to allow the bird to be facing towards the centre of the picture. See how the whites and blacks all retain the detail that is in perfect sharpness.
Evidence has been found that William Tell and his family were keen on playing ten-pin. However, all the Swiss league records were unfortunately destroyed in a fire, so we'll never know for whom the Tells bowled.

See how Ian has got the timing and shutter speed just right on the POTD. The wings show the motion of the wings yet the head and body are caught in frozen state to give all the detail. The tail feathers are nicely exposed so that the outline is visible in a subtle way against the bright sky.
A man rushed into a busy doctor's office and shouted, "Doctor! I think I'm shrinking!!" The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."

If only for the title alone, Les's POTD is a winner. The horizon is balanced by two subjects (one bright and one dark) either side of centre and the foreground wreck is linked to it by the converging lines in the rock base. Wonderful retention of detail in the bright pixels is maintained whilst keeping detail in the blacks in all but the places that don't matter. A magnificent image.
Back in the 1800s the Tates Watch Company of Massachusetts wanted to produce other products and, since they already made watch cases, they used them to produce compasses. The new compasses were so bad that people often ended up in Canada or Mexico rather than California. This, of course, is the origin of the expression, "He who has a Tates is lost!"

Thanks for choosing this image as today's POTD I know its similar to a cafe choice by VintageRed (by the way he is a friend of mine) but it's a shot or series of shots I have been after for a couple of years, although the clouds could have been better and the colours in the sky after the sun went down but you have to work with the conditions dealt you. This is my fourth time at this location and the only time I have come away with something I am reasonably happy with, its still not the shot I am after but because of tide times etc that will need to wait for another year I fear but least now for several trips here I have something.

ROTFL...thanks Karen for the vegetarian option breakfasts! I don't eat breakfast regularly, so if you can just add them in once in a while that will be fantastic.

The "Rivelin" POTD is a good example of the use of shutter speed on moving water. It was slow enough to get motion blur and give the sense of the powerful flow but fast enough to give a hint of the direction of movement. The ferns provide a good foreground to lead into the scene.
A thief broke into the local police station and stole all the toilets and urinals, leaving no clues. A spokesperson was quoted as saying, "We have absolutely nothing to go on."
