PHOTO OF THE QUARTER
Jan,Feb,Mar

Wintery wonderland
by Ian Clamp
Thumb Up

This from Ian:
I was working in Hamburg, Germany and it had snowed at the end of my first week there, this park is basically my back garden to the apartment I have. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon nearing sunset when I happened upon this lovely scene, the low setting sun was an issue but I positioned myself so that one of the trees blocked the sun thus allowing me to shoot towards it. I exposed for the median setting, ie the snow and composed the shot using the railings and long shadows as my foreground and lead in to the image. I used Adobe Lightroom to lighten the slighter darker silhouettes of the trees. Normally I would have had to take 2 images to cover this exposure range but as I shot in RAW, Lightroom is pretty well equipped to deal with this dynamic range to allow it from a single shot.
Thank you for voting this as POTQ

CONGRATULATIONS Ian!

This winner should encourage others to try more into-the-sun shots.

Tough to pull off backlit shots like this; but when you do, you can get a real winner!
